I also believe we need a statewide standard test that students must pass before graduating.

2. Do you agree that the General Assembly has the duty to provide for a statewide K-12 funding system that assures adequate educational resources are available to support a quality public education for every child in every district consistent with the K-12 academic standards enacted by the State Board of Education?

         __X___ YES            _____ NO            _____ DON'T KNOW

As the state’s share of education funding has decreased the burden has been placed more on local homeowners. This trend needs to be addressed and remedied.

4. Do you agree that the Pennsylvania Legislature should continue to significantly increase state funding to increase access for young children in Pennsylvania to high-quality pre-K programs?

I believe we could use this money to a better effect somewhere within our education system.

5. What are the strengths and weaknesses of Pennsylvania's system of funding public education? What should the Pennsylvania Legislature do, if anything, to improve the system of funding public education?
Comments (75 words or less)

In fact we have a very good education system. Our teachers are paid well, we have many after school activities and have been working hard to reduce class size. That being said, we must now find new ways of funding the system if we are to keep providing good quality education in the future.

6. What is your vision of the public education opportunity that the General Assembly should ensure be available to every child in Pennsylvania and what will you do to accomplish that goal?
Comments (75 words or less)

We must continue to provide a good education for our children – as we are now doing. However to keep up with rising costs, we must find other ways of funding the system.

The homeowner is now being taxed to his or her limit and we must now reform the property tax system in a way that relieves the burdens of paying for our education system away from the homeowner.

7. Is there anything else that you will do to strengthen Pennsylvania's public education system?
Comments (75 words or less)

Yes, I support House Bill 1901, which ends teacher strikes and walk outs. I will work to bring this bill out of committee, which is where it stands now. I will work to get it passed in the legislature and then on to the ballot where the voters of Pennsylvania can then make their decision. I have prepared a very good plan on how to pay our teachers, and you can view it on my web site at www.mikebrendle.com.
