Might there be a budding artist like Joseph Plavcan or Susan Kemenyffy in our midst? Maybe Erie has an aspiring actress like Ann B. Davis, “Alice” on “The Brady Bunch,” or a musical theater star like Cris Groenendaal, former “Phantom of the Opera” on Broadway. Perhaps there’s a musician destined for fame, like rocker Pat Monahan of Train or trumpet player Merwyn Bogue. better known as Ish Kabibble, a comedian-musician with Kay Kyser’s Kollege of Musical Knowledge in the big-band era.
We’re proud of these successful Erie natives, but we also support artists who work in the arts locally, because art is part of our everyday life, as We Love Erie Art is stressing this week. To instill a love of the arts, our community nurtures artistic talent at an early age. With its Kids As Curators program, the Erie Art Museum teaches youngsters how to identify, display and appreciate art.
